Here in New England we love our Tiramisu. The name alone is synonymous with dessert but did you know that it actually means ‘a pick me up’?

Visiting Stop & Shop
We learned some great food tips on eating healthy from our visit to Stop and Shop and encourage you to to check out the fresh produce area on your next visit, you might be surprised with all the varieties of fruits and leafy greens that you will find.
Our Stop & Shop tour guide and nutrition expert, Julie Hersey MS,RD, LDN, guided us through the aisles of Stop & Shop pointing out great tips and ideas to bring more fruits and vegetables into our diets. One great suggestion that I will be putting into practice right away is to purchase Stop & Shop’s portion sized zip close bags (see image below). These bags will allow me to measure out a suggested snack serving size from my bulk food purchases. Now when the kids or I grab a ‘snack’ we will be grabbing the right portion size as well – no need to super size a snack.
Another great tip from Julie – recycle a mint container for packaging almonds – the container holds a perfect snacking serving and is great to keep in your purse or car for those moments when you need to avoid temptation.
Here are a few additional tips that we walked away with form the event:
- Substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream in your guacamole – its delicious
- Keep the stone in the avocado, it will prevent it from browning
- There are more seasonings other than salt and pepper – experiment with spices to find a new flavor
- Fresh fruit is great but be certain to switch it up – try exotics, dried and even frozen
- Tofu is great in a smoothie – we gotta try this!
