Annie the Musical Boston
Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre
On the Red Carpet with Annie
Bonnie and I were giddy when we were offered Media tickets to see Annie opening night. To be honest, we have collectively seen Annie MANY times in many different versions on stage and in local performances, so we THOUGHT we had seen it all. Boy, WE WERE WRONG.
To announce the run of Annie in Boston the creative forces behind the scenes had a RED CARPET entrance. It was AWESOME! Boston never really gets that treatment and I have to say, it set the stage for a wonderful evening. Many Boston area kids were there and to see the excitement in their eyes was really special. Our kids had a blast getting an autograph from the stars of the show! Memory making moment right there!
The Show Review
This touring production is by far my favorite.
The cast is EXCEPTIONAL. You can tell about a show the first few minutes in – and we were immediately taken with the young cast of orphans. The banter, the acting and singing were all top-notch. Annie, played by talented Issie Swinckle is superb. She really owned it and she really captured our hearts!
She is just a little kid – WITH BIG TALENT. Her version of Tomorrow had me in tears in the first act. SHE GOT ME! LOL!
Some honest thoughts: We really liked the characters in the show a lot. The only thing we would have liked to have seen is more multicultural casting. And in most productions, Miss Hannigan and Mr. Warbucks are pretty scary – to start, it gives the ending that honest happiness of adoption. Not in this version so much.
Convincing Sets
The sets in this production are eye candy! We loved them. So authentic and really created a mood! The sets moved seamlessly. Very well done!
Singing and Dancing
The singing and music were EXCELLENT. It’s was so polished it was so enjoyable. Everyone in the audience was so enthralled. The choreography was really awesome. No character was out of place and all captured the scene. Sometimes I will watch a random character on stage and see what they do, each complimented what was happening and it was really cool to see that type of professionalism.
