Big Events at Fenway this Week
What a week it is. Winter is finally showing its face here in New England and just in time for two very big events at Fenway park this week.
Spring Training Truck Day
The ground hog may have it’s own ideas about when Spring starts but Red Sox fans know that the real sign of Spring is Truck Day at Fenway Park. That’s right, this Wednesday, February 10th the Red Sox equipment truck will be loaded and setting out to Spring Training at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida. Loading will start around 7 in the morning and the truck is expected to leave around noon.
Wally the Green Monster and his sister Tessie, along with Fenway Ambassadors will be handing out JetBlue collectable baseball card schedules and tossing soft Red Sox baseballs to fans. The equipment truck will be leaving from Van Ness Street which is adjacent to Gate D.
Want’s in the Truck?
For the 18th straight year, Milford native Al Hartz will drive the 53-foot truck, which will carry an assortment of baseball equipment and supplies, including:
- 20,400 baseballs
- 1,100 bats
- 200 batting gloves
- 200 batting helmets
- 320 Batting Practice tops
- 160 white game jerseys
- 300 pairs of pants
- 400 t-shirts
- 400 pairs of socks
- 20 cases of bubble gum
- 60 cases of sunflower seeds
The celebration of Truck Day has been a Red Sox tradition since 2003. It signals the unofficial start of Spring Training. JetBlue Airways has been the presenting sponsor of the annual event since 2010. Moving services are provided by New England Household Moving & Storage.

In celebration of Truck Day, Fenway is once again offering Truck Day Double Play Pax, presented by JetBlue. Create your own 2-game package with choices including great games vs. rivals like the Yankees, Blue Jays, Rays and more. The first 2016 fans to purchase a minimum of two seats in a Double Play Pack will receive a replica truck – just like the one leaving for Spring Training – courtesy of JetBlue.

Polartec Big Air
The Polartec Big Air at Fenway will take place Thursday and Friday, February 11 & 12, 2019 right at Fenway – that’s right, they have transformed the field to a include a 140 foot high ramp – wow!
Fenway Park will host a big air snowboarding and freeskiing U.S. Grand Prix tour event on February 11-12, 2016. “Polartec Big Air at Fenway” will feature a 140-foot high snow ramp, taller than the light towers at the ballpark, and bring in athletes from around the world including Olympic and World Champions.
As a U.S. Grand Prix and part of the International Ski Federation’s (FIS) World Cup tour, Polartec Big Air at Fenway will include many of the top big air competitors including Olympic slopestyle skiing gold medalist Joss Christensen, slopestyle snowboarding Olympic champion Sage Kotsenburg and Olympian Ty Walker.
