Memorial Day is more than just a great stretch of weekend. Memorial Day is a day of reflection and honor in remembrance of the men and women who have died in wars or in service to their country.

Observe Memorial Day

There are many ways you can observe Memorial Day with your family. Here are some ideas:

• Attend a local Memorial Day parade with your family – check your local paper for times.
• Visit a Veterans cemetery – we have a very small cemetery near our home where we replace the worn flags of our Veterans.
• The Flag – talk with your children about the meaning of the stars and stripes, how to hold and care for the flag.
• Visit a local monument – many cities and towns have monuments dedicated to Veterans, take some time this weekend to pay your respect and visit a local monument.
• Read a book – visit your local library to see their age appropriate selections of books for Memorial Day
