The LEGO Movie Inspired Mom’s Lifesavers to Build a LEGO Mini Figure Display
We have been collecting the mystery mini figure packs from LEGO – and have all 16 from The LEGO Movie series! Yay!
But how to show them off?
Well with some help from our resident LEGO builder (a.k.a. my son) we were able to build this display board entirely out of LEGO pieces – no Kragle either.
Here is what you will need:
- A 12 inch by 12 inch base plate – we used a green one
- LEGO Mini Figures – mystery packs – each pack comes with a black plate – you will need one base plate per LEGO Mini Figure
- Parts to make a custom LEGO hook (see video for explanation of pieces)*
- *If you opt to skip the hook the display still looks great on its own
I wanted to use my Crop-o-dile (only the most incredible hole puncher ever made) to make holes in the 12″ by 12″ LEGO base plate for hanging it. My son cringed at the thought and said, “Why don’t I just make a hook out of LEGO bricks?” – OK that will work too I guess (LOL).
Video How To
So here is a short video how to build the hook for the display out of LEGO pieces – don’t have all the parts – get creative – you likely have some parts that are similar and build your own design.
The video also shows how to snap the mini figure bases into the larger plate to create a 90 degree angle – perfect for displaying in the figures. This technique isn’t just for building the display – it comes in VERY handy for lots of projects.
TIP – When spacing your LEGO Mini Figures keep in mind that you want to leave 7 studs (the studs are the ‘buttons’ on the brick/plate) of height space per LEGO Mini Figure – they are between 5 and 6 studs high (typically) and 7 studs will leave ample space for the next black plate.
