Paper Sparklers are Perfect for the 4th!
Celebrate the 4th with these fun and safe paper sparklers.
Our kids love the fireworks, cookouts and parades that go hand in hand with July 4th celebrations. This year we created our very own sparkler wands with a few basic supplies you likely have around the house.
These paper sparklers are perfect for little hands to play with and wave around – they also look great as a group in a vase for your party tablescape!
Paper Sparkler Supplies
- Paper cup cake liners – we used red, white and blue seasonal ones
- Pipecleaners
- Paper or colored straws
- Scissors
- Optional – Glitter Glue or School Glue and Glitter
Getting Started
- Gather your supplies
- Flatten and layer your paper cup cake liners – we stacked 6 total, alternating the white side (inside of the liner) and the printed (outside of the liner)
- Create a ‘sandwich’ with all the layers and fold the circle in half
- Using scissors, cut a slice into the half circle, but take care NOT to cut all the way through
- Place a pipe cleaner into the slice and fold the pipe cleaner in half
- Twist the ends of the pipe cleaner to secure the paper cup cake liners in place
- Using scissors, continue cutting into the half circle to create the layers of the paper sparkler
- Once you have completed one side, repeat step 7 on the other side of the paper half circle
- Fluff out the paper cup cake liners to create the paper sparkler effect
Adding The Wand and Glitter
- We find that placing the pipe cleaner into a colorful paper straw or colored plastic straw makes for a great ‘wand’ for the paper sparkler. We found our paper straws at Funny Bones Party Superstore.
- To add glitter, the easiest way is to use glitter glue. There is less clean up and glitter mess with glitter glue, we used silver but it is available in many colors.
- Place a little glitter glue on a paper plate or disposable work surface and gently tap the top of the paper sparkler into the glitter glue
- Let the paper sparkler dry by placing it in a cup or vase until the glue is dry.
We hope you enjoy making these Paper Sparklers and have a safe and happy July 4th celebration with your family and friends!
