Throwback Thursday Halloween 1976
Did you have a favorite Halloween costume as a child?
This was my most memorable costume and it makes a perfect Throwback Thursday Halloween post!
The year was 1976 and my dad made me my very own homemade Tin Man costume.
Using cardboard, tape, staples and spray paint (which I am pretty certain would have had lead in it at the time).
I remember even now how hard it was to walk in the thing (not to mention the chafing under the arms and the fact I couldn’t see or enter the doughnut eating contest with my ‘head’ on) I cherish the memory of them making a costume for me.
Mom pulled a paper heart from her Valentines decorations and some yarn – instant heart! They made my costume with love…
I never appreciated the homemade costume like I do today. Back then I wanted the boxed version with the plastic mask and vinyl (highly flammable) suit – I eventually got one of those – you’ll have to wait for another throwback day to see it though!
