Cooler Corn
So you may have seen this on the internet, Facebook or heard about it – but has anyone you know tried it? We did.
We used a Coleman Cooler for this experiment and here is what Coleman Customer Service had to say about the plastic used in their coolers “none of Coleman’s insulated coolers or jugs contain polycarbonate or BPA.”
That being said, how often do you cook 3 dozen ears of corn at the same time?
The answer for me was ONCE. Only once this summer and it was for a block party. We shared how we cooked it with our guests and also cooked additional corn using the traditional stove top method.
What We Did
- Gather your corn, husk it and place it in your beverage cooler (we used a Coleman Cooler)
- Next, boil water (approximately 2 Quarts per dozen ears of corn) and pour into the cooler.
- Close cooler for 20 minutes
- Drain water
The Results
Our corn stayed warm for over an hour – with people opening and closing the lid.
Final test – the TASTE – perfect, corn wasn’t soggy or under cooked.
Mom’s Lifesavers knows that this isn’t necessarily the preferred method of cooking corn, but having heard about it and investigated it, we felt we needed to try it – so we did!
Disclaimer – Yes, coolers are made of plastic and plastic heated, specifically BPA plastic, is not intended for heating, nor is it recommended for food storage.
