Dollar Tree Autumn Wreath DIY
This wreath comes together quickly and for only a few dollars!
Swing by your local Dollar Tree and you will see not only Halloween decorations out but Christmas ones too! Yikes – I need to ease into the holidays a little more slowly so I thought I would start with ‘Autumn’.
This wreath is fun and easy to make – no glue gun or special tools required. Pipe cleaners are the trick! Now that’s a treat!
Here is what you need:
- Wire wreath frame ($1 Dollar Tree)
- 3 Bunches of artificial fall/autumn flowers (3 x $1 Dollar Tree)
- Burlap Butterflies (2 x $1 Dollar Tree)
- Roll of Fall/Autumn ribbon ($1 Dollar Tree)
- Pipe cleaners ($1 Dollar Tree)
- 1 Yard (approximately) of burlap fabric (We got ours at JoAnns on sale for less than $3)
Getting Started
- Gather all your supplies
- Cut strips of burlap fabric to approximately 6″ wide from ‘by the yard’ burlap. Leave the strings (they add character!) Seriously, we just cut approximate size strips, don’t panic or worry about straight lines, the burlap will be woven into the wreath frame.
- Using scissors, cut a few pipe cleaners in half and twist them onto the wreath frame
- Take a strip of burlap and stick it into the wreath frame securing it with a pipe cleaner.
- Making ‘bunches’ with the burlap, weave and secure it into the wreath frame. Have fun with it, there is no one way to bunch it. Fold, stuff, twist, and poof – your wreath frame will fill up quickly. (Steps 5, 6, 7)
Next Steps
Time to embellish!
- The burlap butterflies we purchased had ‘alligator’ clips on the back of them so they were secured to the wreath with a simple clip.
- Adding artificial flowers. Using some wire cutters (you can also use scissors) cut off the excess ‘stem’ of the flower bunch. Take the bunches and arrange them into a cluster and secure them to the wreath using a pipe cleaner
- Adding a bow. Using the entire spool of seasonal ribbon, folding accordion style into loops. Secure the center with a pip cleaner and twist. Using the same pipe cleaner, attach the ribbon to the wreath.
Hanging the Wreath
Since the frame of the wreath is made from wire, it will easily hook onto an existing door hook. If you need to make an extension to hang it, grab a pipe cleaner and make a hanging hook on the back of the wreath.
Enjoy your Autumn wreath!
