Broadway In Boston revealed this week its 2015-2016 Lexus Broadway Season which will feature eight theatrical productions, slated for the Boston Opera House and the Citi Emerson Colonial Theatre. Some of Broadway’s biggest shows will be heading to Boston beginning next fall.
The Boston Opera House will play host this upcoming Season to five productions direct from Broadway. BEAUTIFUL – The Carole King Musical tells the Tony® and Grammy® Award winning inspiring true story of King’s rise to stardom where she became one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than just beautiful music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation. Time Magazine’s #1 Show of the Year, MATILDA THE MUSICAL, is the winner of 50 international awards including four Tony® Awards. Based on the beloved novel by Roald Dahl, MATILDA is the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her destiny. IF/THEN is an original, contemporary Broadway musical and deeply moving story written by the Pulitzer Prize and Tony® Award winning creators of Next to Normal, about one woman’s two possible life paths while living in New York today – and all the possibilities of tomorrow. PIPPIN, is the story of a young prince on a death-defying journey to find meaning in his existence. Directed by Tony® Award-winner Diane Paulus, Artistic Director of the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge PIPPIN returns to where it first premiered, before opening on Broadway where it won the Tony® Award for Best Musical Revival. The magic continues at the Boston Opera House with the brand new production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, directed by three-time Tony® Award winner Jack O’Brien. The beloved musical story of Maria and the Von Trapps returns to Boston and will thrill audiences with its award winning score. Today, March 2, 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the film’s release date, which continues to be the most successful movie musical in history. Family favorite NETworks presents Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, the smash hit Broadway musical for all generations and based on the Academy Award winning animated feature film that won the hearts of over 35 million people worldwide, returns to Boston. Unforgettable characters, lavish sets and costumes take center stage.
Back by popular demand after two sold out Boston engagements in 2013 and 2014, THE BOOK OF MORMON, the nine time Tony® Award winning musical from the creators of South Park, will return to Boston to kick off the 2015-2016 Broadway In Boston Season at the Citi Emerson Colonial Theatre for a limited six week run.

Over 600 people from around the city gathered to celebrate today’s announcement including Broadway In Boston’s Season ticket holders, group leaders, Arts and business leaders, city officials, partners from around the city, sponsors and the Boston media. Highlights from the day included a special appearance by Diane Paulus, Tony® Award winning Director of PIPPIN and live performances from the Broadway casts of MATILDA and BEAUTIFUL.
