Family Time In A Winter Wonderland

Our family bundled up and piled into the car to head North! Located at exit 32 off of 93 North in Lincoln, NH, Ice Castles is worth the drive and is packed with frozen family fun.

Times: Sunday – Thursday – 2pm to 9pm,  Friday – 2pm to 10pm, Saturday – Noon to 10pm (Note we arrived at 12:30 on a Sunday afternoon – although Ice Castles was scheduled to open at 2 they opened at Noon – yay! Call ahead – times are subject to change)

Planning Your Trip – Tickets and Parking Insider Tip

If you are planning your trip on a weekend, be prepared for some lines. Check out Ice Castles New Hampshire on Facebook for updates on weather conditions, lines, special guests and events taking place. We attended on a Sunday and the weather was a little ‘rainy’ – it must have kept the crowds away because we didn’t have any lines or waits.

Upon arrival, parking is located right at the base of the Ice Castles NH – parking is free. Enter the train station to purchase your tickets or go online and buy them in advance to save time.  We put our layers on in the car (and around the car for that matter) and headed to the ticket counter. We were greeted by a very friendly staff and received our hand stamps and signed the waiver that basically stated that we were not to climb or run on the ice structure. It was time to play.

Dress for Success

That’s right, dress for the weather and then add one more layer. Warm boots, socks, hats, gloves, jackets, AND snowpants. The outerwear you choose will make the difference between walking through the space and playing in the space. There are tunnels, hidden rooms (being built while we write this), slides, seats and more – all made of ice.

 Take Pictures

We took lots of pictures. Depending on the time of day, the weather and temperature, every visit will be different. We were there on a dark, rainy day – but you wouldn’t know it by all the fun we had. We were only there during the day and did not get to see the Ice Castles at night – you can bet that we will be going back later next month to see just how much it has changed, grown and what it looks like in the evening. Note: Your hand stamp is good for the entire day. Leave, have dinner and come back after 5:30 to see it all lit up.

Throughout the Ice Castle location you will find builders adding harvested icicles to the structure. Here is a sample of a harvested icicle being added to a wall using an icy water slurry – brrrr.

Make a Memory

Our trip to Ice Castles was a great winter family adventure. Exploring the Ice Castles was the perfect family activity – we crawled up tunnels together and squeezed through spaces and even slid down slides on our bellies. Note, one of the great parts of Ice Castles is that you can make it as much or as little of an adventure as you choose.

Bring Home a Souvenir

We grabbed a few postcards for the kids to have – they wanted to share the pictures of the Ice Castles at school with their friends and tell them about their trip. There were also fun socks, gloves, hats, shirts and more sporting the Ice Castles logo.

Bounce Back

That’s right – didn’t get enough Ice Castles during your visit? Ask one of their helpful staffers about purchasing a ‘Bounce Back’ pass. This allows you to comeback once again during the season for a reduced rate – very cool – and WE WILL! This was a definite fabulous family event! Tell us if you go!
