Penguins of Madagascar Review and Craft
The only person more excited to see this movie than the kids is ME!

Out of the Madagascar movie franchise comes an entire movie about our family’s favorite Madagascar characters – The Penguins: Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private!
We are traveling for Thanksgiving week to spend time with family across the miles – which yesterday took time – lots of it! To travel 300 miles took us over 10 hours! (But that’s a post for another day! LOL)
Now that we are settled here with Grandma and Grandpa we needed a little relief from our travels. We know that laughter is the best medicine, so it only made sense to head to the movies to see Penguins of Madagascar . We purchased our tickets online through Fandango and you can too!
What a fun, laugh out loud movie! Both our son and daughter loved it and my husband and I were not only laughing out loud with them we were also laughing at the word play that makes these Penguins one of our animated favorites. So grab some cheezy dibbles and head to a theater near you!

The Excitement of the Movies
We were all smiles leaving the theater although it was super hard to pick just one part of the movie that was our favorite. The movie has lots of action, but I wouldn’t consider it too violent. There is NO fowl language, which makes it a great family pick for all ages. As far as being scary, I asked my daughter (9 years old) who is very sensitive to anything creepy or scary and she said it wasn’t scary at all. Even the evil octopus is a bit foolish, which makes him less scary.
The movie is available in 3D. We did not see it in 3D because of a vision issue in our family. I can imagine though that the action scenes must really come to life and jump out in 3D – take this into consideration with your littlest movie goers.

Penguin Crafting with Mom’s Lifesavers
What better way to connect with the movie than to make a penguin craft and eat some cheezy dibbles.
Penguin Plate Craft
My daughter might love Private, he is adorable, but I love the leadership and quick comebacks that come from Skipper. The Penguins of Madagascar are our craft inspiration for this paper plate craft.
Here’s all you need to make your own ‘Skipper’ paper plate penguin.
Supplies
- Orange marker or construction paper
- 2 White paper places with ridged edges
- Google eyes
- Black marker
- Scissors
- Glue dots or glue stick
Getting Started
- Gather your supplies
- Using a black marker create the head and arms outline. Tip: start by making a very wide M – draft it in pencil first.
- Fill in the area with black marker and cut out
- Print out or trace/cut out the beak and feet (below)
- Using glue dots or a glue stick, attach the black head and wing outline to the top of a second paper plate, leaving the bottom of the wings loose to give it some ‘movement’
- Glue the beak and feet in place
- Add the google eyes or draw on your own
- You have your very own ‘Skipper’ Penguin!
