Upcycled Headband
This upcycled headband craft is super simple and made out of your old jeans.
This is a quick fun craft for you and your little one – we used a pair of dad’s old tired jeans and cut a piece our to cover a plain headband – we wrapped the denim around and used a hot glue gun to hold it in place – I forgot to take a picture of the bottom side but I ran a piece of ribbon along the seam so that it looked cleaner.
The denim flower was made from the same jeans – use sharp scissors to cut the petals or if you have a Sizzix or Cuttlebug – this is a great use for a flower die cut. We glued all the pieces together and added a little ‘bling’ to the center.
Supplies
Here’s what you need to make this upcycled headband:
- pair of old jeans
- plastic headband – we got ours at the dollar store
- scissors
- hot glue gun – we use a low temperature one when the kids help
- scrap of ribbon
- optional – die cut machine – we used our Sizzix
- optional – flower die
- Bling – gather rhinestones or get creative with beads and / or a broken piece of jewelry that you can upcycle too! Add a flower, a bow, use your imagination.
Getting Started
We started by cutting the jeans into strips.
Once you have a length of jean material to work with, start wrapping. You can wrap around the headband (be certain to space it out evenly to keep it from getting bumpy) or roll it length wise for a smoother look.
Glue in place
Use the scrap of ribbon to run along the inside of the headband to cover any loose edges
Decorate – bling that headband – the posibilities are endless
Have fun with it!
